High Five for Friday

It's Friday...
You know the drill :]

Photobucket

Linking up with Lauren over at From My Grey Desk
to share the top 5 things of my week!

1. Going to Park City for the afternoon with my cousins!
You can read about that here :]

2. I'm in the D.C. area for a week! So excited to be out here with my brothers, sister-in-law, and stinking cute niece!

3. Went to D.C. to check out the sites. Loved seeing the National History Museum, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Korean War Memorial, and many other structures.

4. Hanging out with this little girl :]

5. Getting an ice cream bar at church!
And it wasn't just ANY ice cream bar.... it was a Magnum ice cream bar.
When does that ever happen?
Yup, never :]

What made your top 5 this week?

Dollar Spot

Remember how I love Target?

One of my favorite things about Target is the Dollar Spot.
You know, the area in the front of the store with bins and bins of things for just a dollar!

I have had my eye on the Dollar Spot ever since April, when I found out I'd be teaching 1st grade!

I really hoped to find things that would help with "word work." Word work is a station the kids visit to help with handwriting, spelling words, word families, manipulating sounds, etc, etc etc.

You often need to get pretty crafty and clever to catch their interest :]

Here are some of the awesome things I've snagged for a $1 or less
via the Dollar Spot:

Star pencils for the Star Student each week

Lined dry-erase boards to practice spelling words and patterns

Dry-erase letter cards to practice handwriting

Dr. Seuss pencils for Dr. Seuss Day
They're 6...they REALLY like this :]

Pocket Charts!
Fellow teachers know how expensive these can be!

Ok, this isn't from Target, but I wanted to share it anyway.
I found this owl shaped timer at Francesca's for $6.
Can't wait to use him in the classroom :]

Check out the Dollar Spot at your Target!
Never know what treasures you might find :]

Park City

Yesterday afternoon I drove up to Park City for a cousin's day
at the Park City Mountain Resort.

I had to stop to see some of my favorite animals in Midway quick, however :]

It was a beautiful day.
The sun was out, but we were shaded by lots of clouds.

Our grandparents spoiled us with wristbands that allowed us to play all day at one price. We took full advantage of this!
Thank you!!

First on the list was the Alpine Slide.
For those that aren't familiar with it, it's a track that descends down the mountain and you use carts with a brake to go on down.
Here's a video I found on youtube:

We then headed to the Alpine Coaster, which was my personal favorite!
You hop on carts that are on a magnetic track that pull you up the mountain.
Once you're at a designated area, you push down the lever on your cart and go as fast as you can down.....or at least that's what we did :]
Here's another video I found on youtube:

Some of the kids also did the bungee trampolines, where you are hooked into harnesses and can do flips and tricks. They had a blast and it was fun to watch them throw triples and double flips!

I loved spending the afternoon with my family
and enjoying another day out in the canyon air  :]

Now I'm off to pack!
Remember how I leave TOMORROW???
