Cruise: Day 3

Day 3:

May 6, 2012

On day 4, we finally got to explore some new places. Our first port was Cozumel, Mexico, where we ported right on their dock.

I didn't have my camera this day, so sorry for the lack of pictures....

We booked shore excursions through Carnival Cruises for 3 out of the 4 ports, and Cozumel was one of them. At the end of the port, we met Alex, who would be our tour guide for the day.

We hopped on a bus and were off to some Mayan Ruins on the island. The amazing ruins you hear about are all on the mainland (Tulum), but the ones that are on Cozumel are called the San Gervasio ruins. see map below

It was fascinating to hear him speak of the Mayans and their culture. He talked about how the Mayan language is more like English than Spanish and in school, they were taught Maya and Spanish. 

After the ruins, we headed to Punta Morena, where we got in the sea, laid in hammocks, and enjoyed the sun. It was so peaceful to just sit and enjoy the beach. 

We then headed back to our ship, where we read and napped until dinner. Well, I guess you could call it a "nap." We all laid down around 3:00 and planned to get up around 4 to shower for dinner. I guess we slept a little too soundly because around 5 we got a knock on the door from our room steward wanting to clean our room for the night. After the first knock, yes I said first, we must have fallen asleep again because there was a second knock! Here is the conversation between Jerry (our room steward) and Maren:

Jerry: Sorry to wake you! 

Maren: Oh, that's ok!

Jerry: I know you have open dining, but what time do you think you might be heading to dinner?

Maren: Oh, maybe like 6:30 p.m.

Jerry: (looks at watch) Oh, well it's 7:20 right now!

Maren: No way! Really???

Jerry: Yes, yes! Look at my watch.

We all died laughing. We had passed out of nearly 4 hours.....opps :)

We ran up to the Buffet and enjoyed a casual dinner and evening. I bet you are wondering if we had problems sleeping that night? Not. At. All :)
