Day 4:
May 7, 2012
Today we ported in Belize. After grabbing some breakfast and hoarding mini cereal boxes, we hopped on a tender to be taken from the boat to the port. Due to shallow water, we were unable to port right on the dock.
We did not plan a shore excursion for Belize because none of them were that appealing to us. Most required you to be scuba certified or were snorkeling excursions. After arriving on the dock, however, we instantly regretted it.
The port had some small shops and then you had to leave a gated area to get to "town." Upon entering the "town," we got bombarded with people wanting to take us to tours, girls wanting to braid our hair, girls asking to paint our toenails (what??), etc etc.
We started to walk along the "sidewalk" (aka a thin slab of concrete), trying to dodge cars, people, and instantly realized we stuck out like a sore thumb. We all looked at each other and knew we all didn't have the best feeling about walking any further, so we walked back to the port :)
Yes, yes....our Belize adventure (including 2 tender rides) lasted about an hour!
We headed back to the ship where we ate lunch and laid by the pool. It was nice because so many guests were off the ship, so we had plenty of room by the pool.
Enjoying Tina Turner on the pools big screen
We later returned to the room, showered, and got ready to eat in the dining room. After dinner, we went up to the deck to enjoy a movie on the big screen (and a photo op or two) and then to the Venetian Palace to enjoy a show by a Mo-Town singer.
And a silly video.....
Sounds like Belize was a bummer! (but at least the pool wasn't crowded)
